Further Disapointment

Diary

That trading edge hit me hard over the last few weeks with more losing trades than winners. However from the last diary post the amount is still lower than previously posted. Last weekend gave me a total loss of £63.03 which was disappointing as it equalled by biggest winning weekends total. I know there will always be loosing weekends but that one hurt as I was hoping to get the balance sub £200.

Trading balance is now at -£357.81

It is going to take a lot longer than anticipated to get the balance back to £0, but i'm not going to give up, I have found something that seems to work and I just need to refine my parameters a little.

Additional funds are still non existent at the moment and I am struggling for ideas on how to make some extra money. I am still extremely busy at work at the moment as as people are still on furlough I seem to be doing the job of more than one person.

I need to start using the receipt apps again as I am now buying more things as I am back to full salary now

There are some small profits to report this update, which are: -

I have received a £5 voucher for Aldi as I bought some cheese that when I opened it, it was completely mouldy.....Yuck.

my savings account paid interest of Oct, £8.88, Nov £6.30

Quidco paid £5.41 for a couple of small things bought during lockdown. Quidco also paid £85 for taking out house insurance.

Cashback from my current account paid £4.19 after the £1 charge

moneysavingexpert paid me £25 cashback for switching gas and electric a few months ago.

There was nothing saved at all in August due to a month of spending due to my Birthday and my sons. Next month I am back to full pay as my 20% pay reduction has come do an end.

A Disappointing Month

 Diary

I have slowly started to find my edge at trading, I know what is working and what is not working. The balance is slowly coming back down after making some hug mistakes because I didnt know what I was doing to be honest. With the use on an in-play statistical scanner I am slowly getting back to £0.

Trading balance is now at -£353.41

It is going to take a while but hopefully I can get to a point where I am in profit each month and use the money to over pay this mortgage of mine.

Additional funds are non existent at the moment and I am struggling for ideas on how to make some extra money. However I am extremely busy with work at the moment and work travel is starting again next week, hopefully I can start to build the Quidco balance back up again and use it as a steady income.

Snap my eats which is one of my apps that paid money for uploading receipts is closing down so I withdraw my very small balance to my paypal account

This is Difficult

 Diary

I have had a few mixed results trading in this period, more losses than wins but I am still determined to make this work, I think it will get worse before it gets better

Trading balance is now at -£520.28

Its going to take a while to get this balance back down to a profit. I will keep you informed on the progress.

I am struggling to find additional funds at this time, I can hardly save any money as I am on a reduced salary until September and the additional opportunities to gain cashback and a decent interest rate on saving accounts is slowly drying up so I am going to have to start thinking of extra ways of generating additional income to overpay this mortgage.

There are some small profits to report this update, which are: -

my savings account paid interest of £8.59

Quidco paid the last amount of money that I had in my account which was £23.67

Cashback from my current account paid £4.19 after the £1 charge

lastly I did manage to save £24.96 which was from my expenses in work due to a trip to Leeds.

There was an error in the previous overall total so I have amended this amount below.

Poor trading

Diary

Absolutely cannot believe the mistakes I made trading this week, I got caught out not knowing what to do when some late goals went in. I'm more disapointed in myself at not getting out of the trade as soon as it went against me. I really don't know what was going on, I didn't feel great during the day, I was stressed from work and I was rushing around to trade on the 6pm match. This was the reason for the poor mindset and then I started to chase my losses which just resulted in further losses.

I'm not even going to post the results as I am so angry with myself.

Trading balance is now at -£466

I'm going to just plug away at this balance slowly and get my winning edge back, its going to take a while but i'm more determined than ever to get this right.

some small profits to report this update, which are: -

my savings account paid interest of £9.28

Quidco paid nearly the last amount of money that I had in my tracked balance of £7.18

No money added today

Diary

No money added to the total today I just wanted to give an update on the last few days.

my trading of football is slowly becoming more successful, watching the games, research and having a plan is actually helping me claw back the larges losses I made a few posts ago. The last few days have been profitable:-

Mgladbach vs Wolfsburg (under 2.5) £8.56
Napoli vs Juve (under 2.5) £3.00
City vs Juve (Under 2.5) £9.49

Total £21.05

Leaving a total of -£150.52

Hopefully with the football back in full swing over the next few weeks I can get that total back to £0 and then start using the money traded to overpay my mortgage. Its slow and steady at the moment.

some small profits to report this update, which are: -

I am continuing to participate in Panel base questionnaires, however I seem to be screening out of most of them at the moment which is annoying as it takes a while to fill in the screening questions.

i have taken out new house insurance through Quidco for £90 cashback, although it didn't show as tracked so I had to raise a claim through Quidco. Hopefully it is successful.

I have received a £5 free bet via text message from Betdaq which I will match in the next few days when there is some football on.

I'm also aiming to have saved a few quick from my salary this month, at the moment its looking likely with only one more food shopping day until payday.

I keep reading moneysavingexpert in the hope new ways of earning some extra money appear, if anyone has any further ideas i would love to hear from them. Please do feel free to comment below

Football is back!

Diary

Well the English football is back this week coming albeit behind closed doors it will still help me get back some of the money lost through making stupid mistakes in my trading.

I have decided to concentrate on trading the correct scores and the over/under 2.5 goal markets on the last part of this season.

decided to find the time to get back into the trading as the liquidity in the markets is picking up and so to the number of games.

whilst typing this blog I have traded two matches which resulted in the following profits:-

Koln vs Berlin (correct score Dutch) £11.95
Munich vs Mgladbach (under 2.5) £10.43

Total £22.38

Leaving a total of -£171.57

some small profits to report this update, which are: -

My bank account paid £4.20 in cash back which was the first payment since I changed to the lite account.

Quidco paid £10.62 for a few work trips.

Panel base paid me £12.40 for doing a few questionaire's which soon add up so I will make an effort to do at least one a day.

I saved £9.96 from my bank account from last month which was all I could save as I have took a pay cut during this pandemic.

Lastly unibet emailed to say I had a free £25 bet on the next bundesliga game so I matched Frankfurt to win against Mainz for a 25p on the qualifier and then matched a 1-2 score line in the Augsburg vs Koln game for a £17.85 win and an overall return of £17.60

Small profits in Extraordinary times

Diary

Since my last diary update a lot has happened and the Coronavirus has since spread around the world causing over 110,000 deaths worldwide.

everything has been cancelled and the whole country is being asked to stay at home to avoid spreading this virus further.

This is like nothing anyone has seen for a long time.....I hope people do take note and stay at home so that we can get back to normal as soon as its safe.

some small profits to report this week, which are: -

£7.53 was paid in interest and cashback from my current account for this month. Really need to decide on what to do with my bank now that the interest rate has been cut.

My panel base account from doing surveys reached £19.95 so I withdrew the amount. This took a while to get to this total as I kept getting told I didn't pass the screening questions.

My shoppix account reached £10 for sending in receipts of purchases, because we are buying less due to the lock down I have decided to withdraw the £10 as it will take a long time to reach £20.

Quidco continued to pay confirmed cashback which totalled £41.16. With only having £83.94 left as tracked and no further work trips planned for the foreseeable, this revenue may dry up shortly.

The diary seems less important compared to what is happening elsewhere in the world

Diary

Coronavirus is on everyones lips and will certainly be affecting my diary in the short term or possibly the long term....who knows. The main point is that people must take this seriously and take the correct precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

all footballing events accross the UK have been suspended so my trading activity will be limited going forward, but here is this weeks trades: -

The couple of trades made this week are
Leipzig vs Spurs (correct score Dutch) £26.00
PSG vs Dortmund (correct score Dutch) £19.37

Total £45.37

Leaving a total of -£193.95

I am still learning but I will turn that negative number into a positive one and start using the trading profits to pay off this mortgage. i have found the key is to take feelings and emotion out of it. No one likes loosing money but sometime scores go against you and you must take the loss immediately. Quick goals in the first half almost kill off any chance of making a profit.

£1.87 was paid from Quidco again from flybe of all merchants. Flybe collapsed due to the coronavirus outbreak so I was not expecting any cashback from Flybe. I used Flybe alot to travel to Southampton for my meetings. It is such a shame to the UK as there are no other regional airlines.

£11.20 was paid in interest and cashback from my current account for this month. Santander are reducing interest from 1.5% to 1.0% and limiting cashback. My cashback doesnt even cover the fee now so it is time to change bank accounts now.

I had a refund of £4 from buying the wrong school uniform last week as for some reason long sleeved school shirts are cheaper than long sleeved? no sure how that works but I will add the money to the over payment.

This weeks matched betting was limited by my time again I only managed to do some Bet UK and Virgin bet existing offers. It was Cheltenham which usually means serious matched betters take time off work to take up as many bookie offers as they can. My total was a poor effort that returned a total of £36.20 as I was stuck in work.

Diary

Even with the slight loss on the trading front its still getting me excited to continue, i've not had much chance to trade much this week as the football games have all been cup games so I havnt really wanted to trade any of those games.

The couple of trades made this week are
Wolves vs Brighton (correct score Dutch) £8.23
Southampton vs Newcastle (correct score Dutch) £25.42
Barcelona vs Sociedad (Correct score Dutch) £6.72
Total £4.83

Leaving a total of -£239.32

I got the strategy completely wrong on the Barcelona trade and turned a couple of winning trades into a break even afternoon. Ive still got a lot to learn but its still getting me excited.

£32.42 was paid from Quidco again as all of my tracked work trips are starting to pay out which is good. With still a £126.19 tracked balance still to pay, although this is the lowest amount it has been.

My train from Southampton back to waterloo was delayed due to swans on the line, so I submitted a delay claim and was paid 12% of the return ticket price which was £6.12

Currently the world is seeing an out break of a virus that has originated from China and at the moment it is spreading quickly across the world it, its quite scary as its slowly affecting more and more countries. I went shopping this morning and it was noticeable that the shelves were less full than usual. Are people starting to panic? why are people stock piling toilet roll? anyway the reason for the mention is that this outbreak is starting to affect the world stock markets and my stocks and shares ISA has lost over £700 in value overnight. I was hoping to make more of a return in interest on my savings than in my bank. Do I leave the money in the account and hope it doesnt drop anymore or do I accept the loss and withdraw the money? What would you do?

Sorry for the late post this month

Diary

Sorry for the delay in the diary for this month for those that do read it, its been quite an exciting month for me. I have always been keen on getting into Trading on the Betfair exchange having participated in match betting for a number of years. Having followed Caan Berry and Peter Webb online for many years I have always wanted to get into it. the reason for not is the fear of loosing money and not having enough time to fully research the sport that I wish to trade on.

So, I finally got involved in trading football last week. It was going great until emotion took over when one trade went against me. Instead of having an exit strategy I froze not knowing what to do and even though the trading was going well at that point my washout was only heading further into the red and before you know it had wiped out all of the weeks profit so far. Then to top it off the same happened the following day, I should have learnt my lesson. I feel that I let my emotion of loosing money get the better of me and instead of taking a small loss I panicked again.

I have now started to trade with an exit strategy in mind, but also I have decided to study the odds movements for my trades throughout the football match as gaining knowledge of how the odds are moving at various times through the game will help me make better informed decisions.

For the full week my trades were as follows

Trade 1 forgot to keep note of game £26.23
Trade 2 forgot to keep note of game £3.60
Rotterdam vs Groningen (Lay the draw) £23.45
Villa vs Spurs (Lay the draw) £22.73
Ath Madrid vs Liverpool (scalped draw) £9.02
Dortmund vs Paris (Lay the draw) £5.58
Man City vs West ham (correct score dutch) £15.02
Spurs vs Leipzig (correct score dutch) £21.13
Derby vs Fulham (correct score dutch) £19.56
Waalwijk vs Rotterdam (correct score dutch) £28.71
Brescia vs Napoli (correct score dutch) -£42.70
Chelsea vs Spurs (correct score dutch) £26.84
Leicester vs Man city (correct score dutch) £28.91
Levante vs Madrid (correct score dutch) £15.89
Arsenal vs Everton (correct score dutch) -£152.09
Liverpool vs West Ham (correct score dutch) -£159
Napoli vs Barcelona (correct score dutch) £27.84
Chelsea vs Munich (correct score dutch) -£1.59
Dusseldorf vs Hertha (correct score dutch) -£94.36
Willem vs Groningen (Correct score dutch) -£92.72
Norwich vs Leicester (Correct score dutch) £28.78

Leaving a total of -£244.15

This is certainly not the start I hoped for, however with my new ideas and attitude to taking a small loss when needed if the trade goes against me, I think I should recover total loss. I know where I have gone wrong so I will fund the loss so I can continue to learn trading.

If anyone who reads this diary does football trading and would like to give me some pointers it would be greatly received, likewise if anyone reading this diary would like to jump on the trading journey with me, reply on here of send me a message and we can help each other going forward.

As the trading has taken up all my time the other savings for the diary are quite small this month, I’ve listed them below

Landmark occasion

Diary

So not only did Britain leave the EU yesterday, I think I may well have accumulated the largest amount of money this week.

Its also been 1 year since I stared this journey which has gone quick but looking at the total amount of money saved to date its really going to take a long time to pay my mortgage off.

My mortgage is still standing at £131,951.46 and my average monthly over payment is only £119 a month so according to the over payment calculator on MSE my mortgage will be paid off 6 years and 8 months early which is not good enough for what I want to achieve.

I think I need to put more of an effort into the areas in which I can earn more money, matched betting, trading and Ebay.

The thing I have to remember is that the majority of money made each month is free money, only the money saved is my own.

This week I opened two new bookmaker accounts Sport Pesa and Red bet, Spor Pesa was for a £10 SNR bet and Redbed was for £20 SNR bet which had to be bet on a multiple bet which i'd never done before so took some reading and I found a spreadsheet showing how to lay the bets off one by one. Red bet made £4.92 and Sport Pesa made £7.07.

Betstars also popped up with an email for 2 No £2 bets which I matched for a return of £2.99.

Again this month I have booked some work trips through Quidco, hotel.com and booking.com have both dropped their rates from 10% cashback to just 3% which is seriously going to reduce the amount of cashback I get.

Quidco paid £39.32 this week for work trips back in October.

Panel base reached over the magical £10 which meant I could withdraw the money, even though these surveys are tedious the amount soon adds up quickly.

I sold 3 old Playstation Vita games on Ebay for a total of £14.66 after fees and postage etc.

Also a new total to add this week was my Nectar points added up to £25 so I used the points to pay for my shopping and then used the money for this weeks over payment.

Lastly I claimed a refund for a train journey which if your train is delayed over 15mins you are entitled to compensation. Its really easy to do, just fill in an online form with your details and the journey details and it usually gets processed quite quickly. This is the second claim I have made in the past month although this time the amount was for 50% of the ticket which was £75.75. every time I am coming home from a work trip I am now secretly hoping for a delay. This total will be added to the money saved total.
